Topic: hypoallergenic dogs - Pollok farm specializes in alpacas - Lufkin Daily News
Leslie Elliot washes her alpacas, including ‘Marshmallow’ a fluffy white female with an outgoing personality. Steve Elliot, a local chiropractor, and his wife, Leslie, decided to invest in alpacas three years ago after seeing an advertisement about the species they knew little of, but were curious about. Alpacas have been prized for thousands of years for their fur, or fiber, which is similar to wool but does not contain lanolin, making it hypoallergenic. Unlike other livestock which leave large droppings scattered about, alpacas like to do their “business” together and in one distant spot, leaving a small pile of pellets, similar to rabbit droppings. For more information on alpacas visit the official Web site for the Alpacas Owners and Breeders Association at alpacainfo.
