'Switch to natural cleaners' to tackle bacterial skin infections - Animal Friends Pet Insurance- Topic: hypoallergenic dogs
It could be environmental factors at fault, one pet health care expert has advised owners. After checking with a vet, it may be wise to switch from long-term antibiotics to probiotics to ensure the internal systems are flushing out toxins, Dr Michael Fox writes for the Pocono Record. Switching to a hypoallergenic diet - which includes sweet potato and rice - can also be helpful, although this should also be confirmed with your vet as some human food - such as chocolate - is toxic to dogs. Following this, he advises a complete overhaul of the animal’s bedding and living space with laundering the bed in chemical-free solutions and using only natural cleaners like baking soda and vinegar to clean the home. Furthermore, Dr Fox continues, twice-weekly bathing with a lightly medicated shampoo every other wash - and an oatmeal-based one on the flip side - could prove effective. Animal Friends are a specialist pet insurance company providing dog insurance and cat insurance to British pet owners since 1999 and we now offer horse insurance too.
