Sublett, who also is clinical professor and section chief of pediatric allergy and immunology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, suggested that the new first family should make certain Malia is allergic to dogs. Leickly thinks it can be unfair to a child who has severe allergies and to a pet to allow them to develop a relationship if there is a potential they will have to be permanently separated later — because of severe asthma attacks, for example.
