If your cat is overweight and has a lot of dandruff, ask your vet to recommend a shampoo that is safe for your cat and that will effectively remove the flakes. You are right; it is cat dander, not cat fur that causes your eyes to itch and your nose to run when you are allergic to cats. Cat dander is small pieces of dead cat skin and it is continuously being shed. Give your cat a bath once a week; you will remove a lot of the saliva and dander. I don’t know of any medication for the cat that will reduce the amount of dander it will shed, apart for spray-on products such as Allerpet. read more
