Shar Pei Looking for a Loving Home - Patch- Topic: hypoallergenic dogs

Susan Schachter noticed the handsome Shar Pei roaming about Courter early Saturday, but took a much closer look when he popped up in her yard playing alongside her Irish Terrier, Zugo. After walking around the block inquiring as to whether anyone knew whom the dog belonged to, the Schachters called their vet who suggested they have the dog scanned for a micro chip to trace the owner. In their attempts to find the rightful owners of this good-natured dog the Schachters now call Thurman , they walked him into town where he just about stopped sidewalk traffic on Maplewood Avenue with all the compliments and pats he attracted from passersby. Maplewood’s Dog Whisperer and Walker Extraordinaire Wendy Romanoff (who happens to live down the street from the Schachters) had equally glowing words for Thurman. Enter your tip here and it will be sent straight to Editor Mary Mann, Guest editor Sonya Kimble-Ellis, and Lauren Bright Pacheco, Maplewood Patch’s (incredibly grateful) editors.

From the comments: Big opinions about a little pig - The Saginaw News - MLive.com- hypoallergenic dogs

MIDLAND — After the Midland City Council voted against a proposal to allow mini-pigs as a conditional land use in residential zones , heated words were exchanged in the comments section. Some readers criticized Jason and Lisa White purchasing a mini-pig they named Roger prior to having full permission to own it within the city limits, as well as their decision to pursue a mini-pig instead of a hypoallergenic dog because of the family’s preferences. Get the Boy a hypoallergenic Dog and let him experience the love, affection and friendship that so beautifully exist between a boy and his Dog. Had you watched the meeting you would heard me comment on how we live next door to 3 wonderful dogs – dogs that greet me at our shared fence in the driveway every evening when I come home from work – dogs that I enjoy taking a moment and visiting with. And by the way, my son also has a relative fear of dogs thanks to an unfortunate event that occurred some time ago - an event that occurred with a dog which despite its behavior enjoyed all the benefits of being “legal” simply by belonging to a traditional pet classification.

MIDLAND — After two hours of presentations, discussions and public comments, the Midland City Council voted unanimously against a zoning text amendment that would allow keeping miniature pigs as conditional land use in residential properties. Bay City, Kalamazoo and Mount Pleasant allow miniature pigs in residential zoned properties; Battle Creek adopted a stance similar to Midland, where the animals are only allowed on properties zoned agricultural; and Saginaw does not allow mini-pigs at all.
