The natural pet store will boycott the five brands after learning that the Fortune 500 multinational corporation, Proctor & Gamble, purchased Natura Pet Products last month. In a press release , Proctor & Gamble announced, "This move enables P&G to expand into the attractive 'holistic and naturals' segment of the pet food category, complementing P&G's current Iams and Eukanuba brands. Over the years, the anti-animal cruelty organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has accused Proctor & Gamble of a number of violations including torturous animal testing and attempting to cover up the contamination that led to 2007's national recall of Iams and Eukanuba pet food . Healthy Pets Northwest, which sponsors the annual Pet Parade , maintains that, because Proctor & Gamble is a company that doesn't "match our commitment, nutritional philosophy and values;" they have decided to discontinue selling Natura products as of June 30, 2010.
