(hypoallergenic dogs) Q&A / DAVID FREI, dog expert: ‘We admit to being a target-rich … - Atlanta Journal Constitution

David Frei is notching his 20th year as co-host of TV coverage of Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show starting tonight. And no, he was not the model for the Fred Willard character in the movie “Best in Show,” the 2000 film spoof of dog shows like Westminster. One of the issues is the allergies of one of their daughters, so they need to get a dog that’s hypoallergenic. But when the movie came out, it didn’t make fun of the sport, and it didn’t make fun of the dogs, the most important thing.

(hypoallergenic dogs) First Dog competition is underway - Minneapolis Star Tribune

(hypoallergenic dogs) Stump, a 10-year-old Sussex, wins Westminster (Sports Illustrated)

At 10, a Sussex spaniel called Stump became the oldest best in show winner at America’s top canine competition, coming out of retirement last week and taking the big prize Tuesday night. Sommer guided him past a giant schnauzer that was the nation’s top show dog, a favored Brussels griffon, a Scottish deerhound named Tiger Woods, a standard poodle with 94 best in show wins, a Scottish terrier and a puli. Then five days before this show, Sommer thought Stump might enjoy one last walk on the green carpet at the Garden. Pacifying this active breed — among the two the Obamas are considering — isn’t always easy, even with a big yard and a big staff.
